Mental Health Literacy Approach in School Based Settings - Core Training - 2020

Description of the Mental Health Literacy in Schools Virtual Online Course for Jamaica: 

This is a closed virtual course with tutoring which will involve the use a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous sessions. This course was adapted specifically for use in the Jamaican. 

Overall Goal: 
To improve mental health literacy of students ages 13 to 16 in schools across Jamaica. 

Specific Objectives: 

  1. To adapt the MHLS training of trainers’ course to the online format and to the Jamaican context and mount it on the Virtual Campus of Public Health. 
  2. To prepare a cadre of master trainers from the MOEYI and MOHW that will be able to facilitate the implementation of the Mental Health Literacy in Schools program in Jamaica. 
  3. To facilitate the adaptation of the national Mental Health and High School Curriculum to include elements of the MHLS program.
